A Whirlwind Of A Day At Ivory Moore


Heather Walker went 11-0 to win the pole vault by a foot and a half.

The girl's side of the competition saw plenty of quality performances as well. 

Dominique Chesson was the Queen of the sprints at Jeffco Stadium Saturday. The Fort Collins junior was a double-winner, claiming the 100 in 12.49, and the 200 in 26.14.

A staggering six girls broke 13 in the 100. Following Chesson was Korbe Otis, who took the runner-up spot in 12.78.In the 200 Kh'Miah Vaughns was a close second to Chessson, running 26.35. 

Th 400 was a race decided across two heats, as both Quincy McMahon and Miranda Manfre nearly cracked 60 seconds. McMahon took the W in 1:00.81, just ahead of Manfre's 1:00.95.

The 800 saw two titans of the event battle over two laps. Valor Christian's Keely Jones denied Green Mountain's Kasey Klocek the double, with Jones running away with the 2:22.56 victory. Klocek finished second in 2:28, just ahead of Lena Fogarty, who she battled in the 1,600 a few hours earlier. Fogarty ran 2:31.

In the 3,200 Valor's Taylor Whitfield battled the wind to run a jaw-dropping 11:04. The win was a 53-second victory and state-leading mark. 


In the hurdles Samantha Gordon completed the double, claiming the 100 and 300 hurdles. Gordon ran the lone sub 16 in the 100, winning the event in 15.94, and a state-leading 46.43 in the 300 hurdles. Carly Zimmerman was a close second in the 100, running 16.13 

In the high jump four inches separated first from fourth, lead by Brooke Naughton went big with a 5-4 jump. The Fort Collins freshman beat out sophomore teammate Riley Dodd by two inches, as Dodd went 5-2. Naughton's mark is currently No. 1 in the state.

Speaking of going big, Heather Walker dominated the pole vault competition. The Chatfield senior won the event with a 11-0 vault, which is currently No. 2 in the state. 

While Walker was head and shoulders above the competition in the pole vault, the throws were a much closer battle. 

Katie Dack-Howell and Anna Holland were separated by just five inches in the discus, with Dack-Howell claiming the victory with a toss of 123-5 to Holland's 123-0. Lindsey Osterfelt gave Rocky Mountain High the 2-3 . punch, as she was a close third with a toss of 117-0.

The shot put wasn't nearly as close, however, as Amanda Opp won the event by nearly a foot. Opp went 37-1.5 for the win. 

Fort Collins was the victor in the team competition, tallying 143 points. Fossil Ridge cracked 100 to take second, tallying 101 points, while Lutheran finished third with 66.5.
