Riley Colby dropped nearly 13 seconds from her 2018 personal best.

The 800 is a race were gains come in small doses - there are only two laps to make improvements. But for some, gains come in much, much bigger chunks.

19 half-milers made gains of over five seconds from their 2018 best, and of those 19, only three made gains of over 10 seconds.

10 seconds.

Who drops 10 seconds from their 800 best in one year?

Taking the cake is Palmer Ridge's Riley Colby. The Palmer Ridge soon-to-be senior dropped nearly 13 seconds from her 2018 best.

12.97 to be accurate.

In other forms of measure: that's 6.48 seconds a lap.

Sierra Bower was a close second in this list. The Basalt soon-to-be-junior capped an insane year of improvements, one of which included a 12.08-second drop from her 2018 best in the 800. The third runner to crack a 10-second improvement in the event was Elliot Pribramsky, who dropped 10.91 seconds.
