What's that saying about saving your best for last?
You could say Mia Manson did just that. Or you could say she warmed up into the season. Or you could say she found her stride, her rhythm, her grove.
Or you could just say she went into beast-mode at the UASTF Junior Olympic Championships in Sacramento, Cali. this past weekend.
Yeah, I like that last one...
Manson captured the pole vault national title with a season best of 13-1.5. It was her first time over the magical 13-foot marker this season, which was a season she called a "rough year" in the pole vault.
It was a season-long battle back from injury, where she opened with an 10-0 (indoors), and 11-0 outdoors. After entering the state meet in the unfamiliar role of the underdog - despite being the two-time defending state champ - she rose to the occasion and recaptured her third state title in the event.
In the weeks and months following the state meet Manson continued to gradually claw her way back to peak fitness, clearing 12-8.25 the week before AAU.
And as the (current) saying goes: she went into beast-mode.
Manson won the 17-18 national title with a 13-1.5, which was the first time she's cleared 13 feet since indoors 2018.
In addition to Manson's big day out at AAU JOs, Joel Nyatusah, and Pj Robinson had big days of their own.
Nyatusah finished fourth in the 17-18 division in 13.95, while Robinson finished third int he 15-16 division in a personal best of 14.74.
