Tight Battles At The Colorado State T&F Champs: The 2A Recap


Clay Robinson was everywhere. 

It felt that way, at least. 

The Yuma junior came ready to roll Saturday morning. He claimed his first individual state title in the 100, running 11.17. Anthony Martinez took second in 11.35. 

Several hours later Robinson toed the line in the 200, and once again crossed the finish line first. He ran 22.17. Mason Claunch took second in 22.40. 

Earlier in the day Claunch and Edgar Garcia took the 400 down the line, with Claunch claiming the state title in 49.70, which was just ahead of Gracia's 49.73. 


Moving up in distance, Connor Williams captured his first title Friday in the 800. The Crested Butte junior blazed a massive personal best, running 1:54.21. 

Micah Zeller, who was tripling in the 800, 1,600, and 3,200, finished second in 1:567.61. 

A day later these two met again - this time in the 1,600, and the result was the same. 

Williams kicked late to claim his second state title of the weekend, running a Colorado PR of 4:19.99. Zeller was second in 4:23.20.


Two days earlier Zeller torched the final lap of the 3,200 in 63-seconds to run away with a 9:47.00 victory. Jodzuel Juarez finished second in 10:04.44.

In the 110H Martinez captured his first state title of the week, running 15.44. He battled Blaine Peebles in the 300H later in the day, finishing second once again. Peebles won the race in 40.04, while Martinez finished in 40.99. 

Centauri captured big team points in the relays - they won the 4x100, and the 4x200, while Ouray won the 4x400, and Peyton won the 4x800. 

In the field Nate Early and Markus Vigil both cleared 6-1 in the high jump, Nathan Freeman and Tyrese Otero went over 20-11 in the long jump - with Freeman claiming the victory with an additional half-inch. He won the event in 20-11.5. 

Meanwhile, Jeremiah Leeper won the triple jump with a leap of 42-6.75, while Otero was second again - he leapt to 42-0.75. 

Braden Smith was the lone-vaulter to clear 13-feet - he won the pole vault state title 13-1. 

Like they have all season, Bryant Schoenthal and Mohamed Ibrahim battled in the throws, and they both claimed a state title. 


Ibrahim won the shot put with a toss of 56-4, while Schoenthal was second in 50-8. Across the sidewalk in the discus the results were reversed, with Schoenthal tkaing the title in 173-8, while Ibrahim was second in 167-6.

Yuma captured the team title, tallying 76 points, while Lake County was second with 48.5, and Limon was third with 43 - just ahead of Centauri's 42.
