There might still be some snow on the ground, but you can smell spring around the corner...

The final week of February lacked quantity in terms of meets, but there was plenty of quality. 

The Peak Pre-Season Outdoor Meet #2 hinted at what we'll likely see outdoors in a few weeks. This Polar Bear meet (outdoor meet during the indoor season) saw quite a few great performances. 

The Arapahoe girls swept the top-three spots of the 1,600. Emily Lamontagne won the event in 5:11.91, while Ava Mitchell took second in 5:14.24, and Ava Escorcia was third in 5:18.70.

Meanwhile Aspen Webb sprinted away from the competition in the 400, running 59.28. 

Bryce Reeburgh took the 1,600 over a highly competitive field, running 4:20.19. Camden Law took second in 4:22.04, which was just ahead of Tyler Downs' 4:22.67, while Christian Groendyk was fourth a second bacmk in 4:23.41. 

Cutting the distance in half,  Ty Garrett and Connor Kennedy busted some rust in the 800. Garrett took the win in 1:58.60, which was just over a tenth-of-a-second ahead of Kennedy's 1:58.71.

The 3200 saw a hotly contested battle between Benjamin Anderson and Tanner Brown. The Mountain Vista freshman and the Chaparral sophomore who claimed 5A state cross country title last October took this one into the final lap. Anderson came out with the edge here, running 9:45.

Another bright spot of the meet came in the 400, where Tavon Underwood torched the field in a massive personal best of 49.11 - that's the first sub-50 second clocking of 2022. 

Meanwhile Jackson Wray had a huge day at the ATB 550 Pole Vault Gym Session #4 Saturday. The Legend senior added a stellar six-inches to his pole vault personal best, clearing 15-6.25. Olivia Kosanovich claimed the girl's competition in 11-7.
