Leaping Into History At The Front Range League Championships

Among the highlights of the boy's competition has to be Rocky Mountain's dominance in the mid-distance events. 

Timothy Thompson put his cards on the table within the opening strides of the 800. The Rocky Mountain senior blazed an opening lap of 55-seconds, leaving the entire field in his wake.Thompson would go un-caught in the event, tying his season-best of 1:55.07.

Likewise, teammate Dalton Kaines ran away in the 1,600 and held off late kicks from Eric Sankey and Christian Groendyk. Kaines won the event in 4:22.88, while Sankey and Groendyk clocked 4:24, with Sankey getting the nod with a .42 to Groendyk's .69. 

The day before Groendyk went one-up on Kaines, winning the 3,200 in 9:32. Kaines was second in 9:40.

Meanwhile Kevin Bruxvoort swept the throws. The Rocky Mountain senior won the discus with a toss of 162-7. Cade Whish was second in 153-2. Bruxvoort took a narrow victory in the shot put, tossing 55-6.5 to win the event over Mac Busteed, who tossed 53-2.

On the topic of close battles, cue the triple jump. 

Dontay Johnson and Griffin Elshof took the event down to the inches, with Johnson taking the W with a leap of 22-11, while Elshof was a close second in 22-9.7.

Another hotly contested race was the 4x800. 

Fort Collins and Rocky Mountain used all four legs and eight laps to bring this event to the line. The No. 2 and No. 3 times in 5A came out of this race, with Fort Collins running a 5A No. 2 of 8:04.27, while Rocky Mountain was a stride back in 8:04.98.
