Tasty Race Tuesday: Girls Rocky Mountain Lobo Invitational

There's a juicy red tomato. A crunchy pickle. Fresh green lettuce. Ketchup. Colorado beef. And a warm bun snuggling it all like a blanket to top it off.

Editor's Note: Blame the person sitting next to me at the airport. They ordered a burger, and at the time of this writing I was pretty hungry...

In other words, the girls race at the Rocky Mountain Lobo Invitational had all the ingredients for a delicious race.

There were two previous winners of the race, a two-time state champion, and to top it off there was the excitement of the first race of the season.

Through the opening mile it was mostly Ella Johns pressing the pace - which would set up the fastest version of this race ever.

Isabel Allori ran true to her pre-race strategy and hung back through the opening mile, but she didn't stay there long.

Elena Torres was also in the mix early, clinging to Johns' hot early pace, while Tatum Berg trailed a few strides back.

With the pace already setting this race up to be a real burner, Allori put her mark on it, and turned on the jets in the middle mile.

The Liberty Common junior torched the field over the final half of the race, running a state-leading, meet record of 18:00.

Add that Johns and Torres ran their way into the Top-Three All-Time Rocky Mountain Lobo Invitational list, running 18:44, and 18:56, while Berg's 19:14 ranks her No. 5.

Watch the race above!
