Now that the Colorado indoor season is behind us, let's take a look at the top combined 800-milers of 2024...
Editor's Note: There are still several out-of-state competitions, including New Balance Nationals Indoor in Boston in two weeks.
Topping the list is Xzavier Campos.
He ran 1:56.92 in the 800, and 4:17.15 in the mile (at lower elevations) for a combined time of 6:14.07. Campos was one of three who owned a combined time under 6:20.
A year ago Campos ran 4:29 at the 2023 edition of the UW HS Invitational, then went on to run 4:15 outdoors and finish second at the 2023 Colorado State Track and Field Championships.
In other words, he's way ahead of where he was last year at this point... And he's not the only one.
Dane Eike ran 1:57.60 in the 800, and 4:19.39 (at lower elevations at the Spokane HS Invitational) for a combined time of 6:16.99, while Campos' teammate Parker Davidson (pictured above) owned a combined time of 6:19.33.
