As always, The Pomona Invitational is projected to showcase strong performances... And we can't wait.

While the 2024 season has already spiked up excitement in Colorado, these athletes are still just getting started.

Based on this year's entries, here are six must-watch events...

Boys 1,600

Just like last year's event, the boys' 1600 is projected to be one of the more exciting races of the day with six boys seeded under 4:20.

The trio of Chaparral's Tanner Brown, Rock Canyon's Owen Whitney, and Coronado's Xzavier Campos will look to lead the pack. This will be the first matchup of the season between them.

A few weeks ago, Brown dropped a time of 4:16.15 at the Texas Distance Festival - his first 1600 of the season and first time breaking 4:20.

Whitney clocked 4:18.04 at the Arcadia Invitational earlier this season - the junior also most recently ran a new 800 PR of 1:58.05 at the Niwot Invitational.

Campos has yet to race an outdoor 1600, however, he threw down an indoor time of 4:17.15 in the full mile at the UW HS invitational.

Although these are the top three coming in, don't count out Rock Canyon's Brady Hill. He has already dipped under 4:20 twice this season, running 4:17.74 at the Chandler Rotary Invitational, then clocking 4:19.16 a week later at the Niwot Invitational.

Along with these four, Denver East's Jonas Scudamore and Cheyenne Mountain's Aiden Le Roux will also look to be in the mix.

Girls 3,200

The girls 3200 will feature Chaparral's Kapri Parry and Denver East's Rosie Mucharsky as the top contenders.

Parry most recently broke 11:00 for the first time, running 10:40.16 at the Texas Distance Festival - the sophomore is No. 11 in Colorado.

Mucharsky, who has yet to race a 3200 this outdoor season, comes in seeded at 10:43.00. She is the 2023 5A State Champion in the 800 and is currently sitting at a Colorado No. 2 with her time of 2:12.88.

Kaylee Ellsworth, also out of Chaparral, most recently ran a PR of 11:03.97 at the Chandler Rotary Invitational. She will come in as the third seed, while Emma Wilhelm comes in at fourth with her seed of 11:05.54.

Girls 400

A tight battle will be featured as we have more than 15 girls coming in seeded at sub 60-seconds in the girls 400.

Not only sub 60, but three girls seeded at sub 58-seconds.

Chatfield's Aspen Webb will look to field to lead the field, coming in as the top seed at 56.96.

Webb is coming off of a 56.07 performance from this indoor season at Nike Indoor Nationals. So far this season, she is sitting at a Colorado top-10 mark in the 100, 200, and 400.

Castle View's Eva Dellorco comes in as the second seed at 57.32 - she has already broke 60 twice this season. Lillian Oakes is sitting close behind her with her seed of 57.66 from the Arcadia Invitational.

Boys Long Jump

The two best long jumpers in the state will go head-to-head this weekend.

Jayden Nohr of Roosevelt, who is leading the state, comes in seeded at 23-9.5. He finished runner-up at last year's 4A State Championship.

Colorado No. 2 is Windsor's Mikey Munn - he is not only ranked in the long jump, but currently sits top-10 in the 100 and 200 as well - he will compete in both of those events this weekend as well.

Girls 200

Cheyenne Mountain's Evie Sportel is one of two girls from Colorado to go sub 25-seconds in the 200 this season.

She will look to lead the field in the girls' 200, coming in as the fastest seed at 24.86. Sportel will also compete in the 100 - she most recently ran PRs in both of the events at the PPAC League Championship.

Likewise, Megan Witkiewicz (Rock Canyon) and Amelie Campbell (Denver East) are seeded right on the barrier of breaking 25.

Boys 200

As mentioned before, Munn will also compete in the 200, coming in with the fastest seed time at 21.73. The Windsor senior remains undefeated this season in both the 100 and the 200.

With three other boys checking in at sub 22-seconds, including Fossil Ridge's Marcus Mozer, Castle View's Cole Newman, and Fort Collin's Dj Ruff, we can expect a tight-knit race.
