Great Southwest Classic Information

In the world of major high school post-season track and field meets, none falls closer to Colorado than the Great Southwest Classic. From June 2 through June 4, the UNM track complex in Albuquerque hosts some of the best runners, jumpers, and throwers in the nation. The Southwest states of Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada each have their own slots reserved at the meet, but elite athletes from across the nation regularly come here to test themselves against the competition.

Selections for the Colorado team are made on the basis of top performances in each event regardless of classification. Athletes who place among the top 12 times for their event will be invited to participate individually or as part of a relay team. Coach Maurice Henriques is the representative from Colorado who selects the participants and places them in events based on times posted to the Varvee website. Entries are limited for each event and only the top three performers will have priority placement in individual events. All remaining participants may be assigned to relay teams.
