Last year, Ian Boucher and Kelsi Lasota served notice that they'll be having an impact on Colorado high school cross country for a few years to come. Colorado Track XC file photos.

It's probably a little subjective determining where mountain schools begin and end. Several of the schools on this list could have been lumped into one of the two western Colorado reports. Conversely, some of the schools in the western Colorado reports could have been equally well labeled as mountain schools (Aspen and Telluride come to mind pretty quickly). Nederland is included in this report, but could just as easily have been included under Boulder and Broomfield counties. I guess it all comes down to editorial license, and I trust nobody is offended by the groupings.

It seems almost axiomatic that the mountain schools tend to be smaller schools. Indeed, there are no 5A programs in this scouting report, and Summit is the only 4A school in the mix.
