For the first time since the Tri-Peaks League meet moved from the Canon City Riverwalk trail to Pathfinder Park in Florence, the meet was contested under pleasant conditions. Unseasonal heat has been the rule for this meet for a few years running, but temperatures were well within the comfortable range on Friday afternoon. And the response to those conditions was remarkable.

Whether or not the pleasant fall conditions had anything to do with it is difficult to determine, but at least one athlete took advantage of the day to enjoy her best outing yet as a high school cross country runner. This is the time of year when emerging talents often start to find themselves, and that may be what happened in the case of Elena Slavoski.
