Back on Labor Day weekend, Jordyn Colter led midway through the race on this course. But a late surge from Rangeview's Rikki Gonzales, a savvy veteran of three previous years of Colorado high school cross country, would overtake Colter for the title.
Midway through yesterday's race, Colter was in the lead again.
There would, however, be no late surges of consequence on Saturday. Only Liberty's Hannah Everson was close enough to be included as an out-of-focus blur in the background of Colter's finishing shots. This one belonged to the freshman of Cherry Creek. Colter won in 18:24, nineteen seconds better than Everson who was, in turn, at least 10 seconds ahead of the rest of the field (led by Gonzales). And so it as that Jordyn Colter, along with Middle Park's Tabor Scholl, sets up the tantalizing possibility of a four-year run of state titles. Fo...
