GRAND JUNCTION - The two-day Tiger Invitational is traditionally one of the most competitive Western Slope meets all season. On Friday night, several showdowns and individual performances helped the Tiger keep its reputation.
The boys discus has been one of the deepest events on the Slope. Add in Pomona’s Kenny Shinley, who had thrown father than 159 feet, and there were six guys who had thrown farther than 150 feet at the meet.
The monster throws didn’t show on Friday. Palisade’s Tanner Smith and Shinley were the only throwers to get into the 150s. Smith ended up with the win with a toss of 154-06.
Another impressive showdown on Friday was in the boys 3,200. The race featured the Class 4A (Moffat County’s Alfredo LeBron) and Class 2A (Telluride/Norwood’s Ty Williams) individual state cross country champions as well as the favorite to win ...
