Two years ago, Cheyenne Mountain took home all the marbles from the state meet. Running a patient race on a course that rewarded patient strategies, the Indians rolled everyone else up on the second lap and cruised to a relatively easy victory.
The following spring, they graduated the franchise. And so, last year become something a year of learning and maturing. Cheyenne Mountain, still a good team, finished third at the state meet and graduated only their second and sixth finishers off their state team.
This year's version of Cheyenne Mountain cross country looks to be a junior and senior dominated team, one with a lot of big meet experience, a home course for the state meet, and a history of achievement.
Whether or not that is the perfect storm that brings the state championship back to Cheyenne Mountain remains to be seen, ...
