I hear rumors of optimism in the Regis Jesuit camp. And, as big as the Missy Franklin story is right now, the optimism has nothing to do with the swim team.

It has to do with the cross country progream. Until recently, you would have assumed that any optimism for cross country likely centered around the prospects for the boys' team. This year, however, it figures to be the girls putting on the bigger show.

A 12th-place finish at state doesn't always indicate reason for that kind of optimism, but last year's state meet was probably not the best indicator of the potential embodied in this team.

The scoring begins with Lindsey Koch, Erin Schilmoeller, and Meredith Hoggatt. It's not easy to say in advance which of the three will be the leader of the pack on any given day, but they're each legitimate 19-mid kind of runners ...
