2014 Golden Baton

Paonia's relays were golden this weekend and a big reason why the Eagles were able to repeat as 2A state champions. Photo by Alan Versaw.

Each year, Colorado Track XC recognizes Colorado's top relay program as determined by their performance at the state meet. To determine a winner in each classification, the total points earned by the school in each of the nine relays contested is added up. Ties are broken on the basis of total first-place relay finishes. This year's Golden Baton award winners are as follows:

Class 1A

First Place - Idalia, 49 points (four first places)

Second Place - Plateau Valley, 49 points (one first place)

Class 2A

First Place - Paonia, 59 points

Second Place - Hotchkiss, 38 points

Class 3A

First Place - The Classical Academy, 59 points

Second Place - Coal Ridge, 56 points

Class 4A

First Place - Palmer Ridge, 44 points

Second Place - Broomfield, 37 points

Class 5A

First Place - Fountain-Fort Carson, 49 points

Second Place - Pine Creek, 34 points

Colorado Track XC is pleased to have made, upon request, a plaque for each winning school. If you are a head track coach at the winning school and would like to have a 2014 Golden Plaque Award made for your school's trophy case, please drop me an e-mail at the address shown in the lower left corner of any page on the Colorado Track XC site.
