Reece Davidson wasn't throwing in Faith Christian this this past week, but he was throwing bit nonetheless.

It's been a while since Colorado had a big throws weekend in indoor season. It was nice to shed those shackles.

Colorado Mines HS Indoor Series #3

Steinhauer Field House, CSM Golden, CO
Jan 18, 2018

Bobby Reyes captured the meet action for this one in the article linked below.

It's worth further noting, though, that the mad engineers may have unleashed something even they're having trouble controlling. This time, the meet ran about 3.5 hours, nearly an hour longer than the previous longest Mines High School Indoor.  So, figure they'll spend a lot of the next few days figuring out how to further hone their meet management skills in anticipation of this week's Colorado Mines HS Indoor Series #4.

And, wow, that is a lot of elite performances out of a small Thursday meet! Even if you've become jaded to all the outrageous girls sprint, hurdle, and jump marks, a 51-9 shot put mark might still grab your attention. Take a bow, Reece Davidson! Brittany Line was Davidson's counterpart among the girls, winning at an impressive 37-3.

USATF-Colorado All Comers Invitational

Cadet Field House USAFA, CO
Jan 21, 2018

Neither snow, nor wind, nor government shutdown shall stay USATF-Colorado from its appointed meets. But, it looks like the wind and snow did diminish the attendance numbers a little.

Emily Sloan went big with PR marks in both the 60 and 60H. If you know how times are recorded, then you also know there's a 90% chance that Delaney Smith just became Colorado's fourth girl of the season to run a sub-9 60H.

Carley Bennett's 5-flat 1500 is an excellent mark in the Cadet Field House. It's not bad elsewhere, but it really shines there.

The girls high jump marks have been looking really good this indoor season. Riley Masten just became the latest to get to 5-5 or better. Cal Banta ran a blazing 1:24.19 600, chased to the finish by James Thomas. This pair should be going well below 2-flat for the 800 when spring rolls around. Zion Gordon's 8.02 counts as a big mark in the 60H, big enough to put him at #11 nationally.

And, I'm not exactly sure if Madias Loper just moved to Colorado or if there's some other explanation for his appearance in this meet, but 52 feet is a pretty big shot put. If he has moved to Colorado, we'll know soon enough where he's putting down roots. It's tough to hide out at 50+.

Martin Luther King Jr Indoor Classic (High School)

Albuquerque Convention Center Albuquerque, NM
Jan 20, 2018

As best as I can tell, all the Colorado representatives at this meet came from Durango. Being as large of a meet as this was (the 368 performances shown below is nowhere near the total number of performances, just the count of performances we could match with known high school athletes with 99% certainty), Durango probably didn't show up figuring to sweep the shot puts. But they did. Braden Evans went 41-2 to win the boys competition, and Azalea Santillan went 31-9 to win the girls. That's not a bad place to start your season.

Alex Hise got his sprint and long jump motor warmed up a little. With Cassandra Blau and Teagan Garand, it was more like a sprint and hurdle motor.

In any case, it should have been a satisfying ride home for the Demons. They showed a little something in ABQ.
