A huge round of applause for Scott Dahlberg (Peyton, 2003; Western State, 2008) as the winner of today's inaugural Pikes Peak High-Altitude Mile. The winning time was 4:48, so it is indeed possible to run sub-5 at 14,115 feet on what amounts to essentially a gravel surface.

After going through each of the first three quarters at roughly 1:15 pace, Dahlberg took over the lead on the final lap of the six-lap event and held off Dey Dey (Thornton, 2008) for the win.
