Father Time has gained a year on Kelly Christensen since last year's Fastest Coach in the State Race, but Christensen doesn't figure to go down easily. The 2005 DII Cross Country Nationals runner-up is undefeated in the history of this meet.
There are, however, a few who might be able to make this close--names like Josh Glaab, Scott Dahlberg, Richard Medina, and perhaps a few others. If you hang a coach's hat up at the end of the day, you, too, can race Christensen for the crown.
The meet organization has added a little to this year's race. In short, there's a spot for a whole lot of folks in this year's race. Here is the press release for this year's race, and please note that this year's proceeds will be going to help Lyons Parks and Recreation Department:
Lyons is excited to host the 3rd Annual Fastest Coach in the State race on Saturday, November 30th at 10 am. The course will be the same as the St. Vrain Invitational on September 7th (5 days before the flood).
We're going to add an alumni division this year, so if you graduated from a Colorado high school, you're eligible. In addition, any high school runners who would like to come and pace their coach(es) are more than welcome to join in the fun.
Participants, please bring a $5 entry fee and wear something that shows your school association. This year, the entry fees will go to the Town of Lyons Park and Rec Dept. We'll still have two age divisions in the coaches' race (under 40 and 40 and over), and we'll work on getting some donated prizes.
The address is 100 McConnell Drive, Lyons, CO 80540. As of right now, you'll need to take the 2nd Ave. bridge to get back to the school. This is about a 1/4 mile west of the first bridge (the one near the "Welcome to Lyons" sign). Park in the lot south of the school.
Many of the residents have been able to move back into town over the last couple weeks, and we (the school staff) will be moving back over Thanksgiving break with all our students returning to the school for classes on Monday, December 2nd! This is a great opportunity to come and support our town as we continue to rebuild from the devastation caused by the flood. Feel free to email with any questions: roberts_mark@svvsd.org
