It's not the 100, but it still requires speed, and plenty of it. Many 100 meter sprinters either never dabble in the 200 or never find success in the 200. Most, but not all, 200 meter sprinters are also very capable 400 meter types. 

Seedings also play a factor in this race. Lanes 8 and 9 get the advantage of a broader turn radius, but remain blind to any runners coming up from behind until the finish straight. Lanes 1 and 2 commit the athlete to a tight turning radius that many do not negotiate well. And, anyone who has ever run this race at a high level knows the burn of the last 40 meters.
