Having just discussed trends in the girls throws over the six years that Colorado Track XC has been in existence, the foundation has been laid to take a closer look at the state of the shot put within each classification for 2014. If you read that article, you're probably inclined to believe this year will be another big year of throws for the girls. Let's take a look at how big:

5A

Call this the land of opportunity. It's been a while since we've come into the season without one or two or three established dominant throwers. But there are none entering this year in 5A girls. There is not even one establishing herself as we speak on the indoor circuit. There are no 40-foot throwers. There are not even any 38-foot throwers. There are two--Charley Hatcher of Cherokee Trail and Josephine Natraveschi of Fort Collins--who threw over 37 feet last year...
