Six races determining state qualifiers across three divisions converged at the Elmwood Golf Course in Pueblo on Thursday. The sun beat down on the greens as the ladies of 4A Region 5 took off after the sound of the gun.
 
Canon City's Aubrey Till wasted no time taking charge. Two steps behind her, teammate Elinor Enderle and little sister Katie Till were making strides to assure Canon City’s place in team state qualification. After the first mile, things looked mostly the same, except Aubrey Till had opened a larger gap and now it was her sister that occupied second.
 
Surprisingly absent from the front after a mile were the harriers of Cheyenne Mountain. The ladies in white and maroon crossed the bridge in a close bunch with sophomore Ally Arenson and junior Madison Lambros peaking over their shoulders to make sure the group stayed that way.
