Whether it's coincidence or not, Colorado's three easternmost 3A teams all have black-and-orange color schemes. One of those teams--and our team of focus in this article--is Sterling.
The Tigers have been a force to contend with in 3A, at least in certain events, since dropping down from 4A. This year, those certain events of interest would be the jumps. Let's take a closer look.
Easily, the single biggest factor pushing Sterling toward a nice collection of state points this spring should be sophomore jumper Kylie Chavez. Chavez returns as 3A's #1 long jumper and triple jumper, and as the #2 high jumper (by half an inch). In 3A, at least, Chavez has the springs.
Further complicating the bad news at the pits for 3A's other teams is the fact that Alexis Rutz returns as 3A's #3 long jumper. And Laci Butard also returns as a 15-6 long ...
