It wasn't that long ago that a certain high-profile fan of the running sports enjoyed reminding us that Wolverines are noted for taking down prey larger than themselves. It hasn't happened in a grandiose sort of way yet, but this could be the year. I'll make the case here.
It begins with a standout sprinter named Javon Spencer, who made it to state in both the 100 and 200 as a sophomore last spring. Spencer will be pointed at things bigger than merely getting to state this spring. What kind of speed does Spencer have? Try 10.92, and that was last year's mark.
Joining Spencer in the sprint group at 400 meters is another of last year's sophomore class, Drew Ames. It won't be easy getting to state in the 400 this year, but Ames has, at least, the potential to add a lot of strength to sprint relays.
