Top Moment of the Meet (1)
Right behind Limon's Nanen Aguilar, Kate Griffin and Ivy Marple rush to close out the CSS scoring.
The New Kids on the Block
Two months ago, this region appeared to be gift-wrapped for Peyton's girls. Calm wind, clear skies, and not a cloud in the sky.
But, as the season developed so, too, did a cloud. That cloud developed over the west side of Colorado Springs and spread eastward, casting a shadow over even the town of Peyton.
On Thursday, that cloud rained on Peyton's regional parade. It was close, but the Colorado Springs School undid Peyton's domination of the region with a 14 - 16 regional triumph.
Peyton drew first blood with Kaylee Kearse taking the win in 21:41. The Colorado Springs School responded 12 seconds later with Sarah Weidman crossing in second.
That one-point advantage for Peyton would be erased at places 6 and 7, where CSS's Kate Griffin ran three seconds ahead of Peyton's Mikhala Miller. So, it would all come down to third runners.
Sealing the deal for CSS was senior Ivy Marple, two places ahead of Peyton's Shian Hanks.
If the Colorado Springs School has ever before won a regional crown in cross country that event would predate my memory of things.
Joining CSS and Peyton at State from 2A Region 2 will be Vanguard and Fountain Valley, making it an all-Colorado-Springs-area delegation to state from the region.
