Hanging a Perfect Score
It wasn't like nobody saw it coming, But, it was impressive nonetheless.
Reversing the usual Courser order of things a little, Grant Hughes took the lead and crossed the finish line in 17:02. Eight seconds later, teammate Harley Morgan crossed the line. Not quite in view yet was Nick Lovato, but when Lovato did crest the slight rise before the finish line, it was all too clear that nobody was going to undo the Vanguard perfect score.
Lovato's 17:53 ran 11 seconds ahead of Peyton's Caleb Smith in fourth.
And, if Vanguard earned a perfect score, Peyton earned a perfect second--taking places 4, 5, and 6.
That pretty well secured half of the regional team qualifiers before the chip reader even got warm.
It would take several more places to settle the remaining team qualifiers, but a nice showing from Limon earned the Badgers the third position. Denver Academy would follow in fourth.
