Despite that quarter-mile stretch of sidewalk early in the race, the Centaurus Invitational always seems to draw a very competitive crowd. Accordingly, it usually tells us a thing or two worth knowing about the rest of the season ahead.

This year's edition follows that pattern.

To start with, Brynn Siles validated her big time from the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede with another big time here. Siles' 17:55 was 46 seconds ahead of Ivy Gonzales in second. Evidently, among Siles' other gifts, she handles heat very nicely.

And, with back-to-back times like that, Siles has made the early case as Colorado's top female runner for the fall of 2017. She's been prohibitively far in front for both efforts. There aren't that many contenders left to vanquish.
