2018 CSML Meet: A Few Into State Under The Wire

4A Girls

Despite holding out several girls in individual events, and especially distance types, TCA got enough high-octane performances from other athletes to repeat their league title from last year.

Giving TCA big lifts on the weekend were Shenna Daum, winner of the 100 hurdles and runner-up in the 300 hurdles. Both times should have her safely in next week's 3A fields, a 1-2 from Mickey Curl and Erin Percy in the 3200, and a 1-2 from Erika Willis and Kristina Willis in the pole vault. Otherwise, it was mostly a case of the Titans nickel-and-diming the rest of the league until the resistance was quashed.

Mesa Ridge's Kelly Farnham came up big for a win in the discus. Teammate Shaelynn Williams made it a twofer with a solid showing in the shot put.

Sierra's Alexandria Burns had a PR of 37-1 for a bit of an upset in the triple jump. Lexye Wood went 17-9.5 to win the long jump. Aaliyah Ricketts couldn't catch a break all weekend and ended up second in both horizontal jumps. Wood also won the high jump in a jump-off at 5-1.5.

Harrison made a clean sweep of the sprint relays, signaling trouble ahead at State for teams that might have been hoping the Panthers were more beatable than they appeared to be this weekend.

Elizabeth's Ashten Loeks had some heavy duty over the weekend sealing up some relay qualifiers for the Cardinals, but she found space to post a 45.66 winner in the 300 hurdles and a 58.19 400 winner as well.

Shynesti Johnson did the expected and won both the 100 and 200. Ella Benkendorf of Elizabeth and Sophia Mena of Widefield added first-place finishes in the 800 and 1600, respectively.
