2018 CSML Meet: A Few Into State Under The Wire

5A Boys

In the crucible that is 5A Boys distance, the CSML 5A group has been mostly left on the outside. They spent the weekend making valiant efforts to wedge their ways into the 18-man fields, but with only limited success.

Fountain-Fort Carson's James Thomas posted a 1:56.71 800 that should keep him alive into next week. Hayden Martinez could not improve on his 1600 meter mark and needs some help from scratches (in an event nobody ever scratches) to make the field. Sadio Fenner won the 3200, but well outside of a time needed to make the field. Fenner does, however, have a time from earlier in the season that may make the cut.

Brandon Deas' 11.08 in the 100 just might make the State field, but he has a few hours of waiting ahead of him to find out if it sticks or not.

Jalen Lyon won the 200 and was already a lock to make the field. Lyon sent a message to the State field in the 400 with a 47.55. Teammate Jason Farrell fired a similar shot with a 37.94 in the 300 hurdles. That wasn't a new season-best mark for Farrell, but it did help validate a nice mark from the Doherty meet a week ago.

Further demonstrating that Fountain-Fort Carson is locked and loaded for State were Jequan Hogan's wins in the triple jump and high jump. The Trojans were totally dominant in the 4x100 and 4x200 as well.

Coronado's Charles Broomfield maintained his dominance of local shot put and discus events.

Doherty posted a very nice 3:23 4x400 that should give the Spartans plenty to look forward to in the week ahead.
