Let's Get REAL: A Taylor James Kind Of Day

Samuel Dirkes Goes Big

The big news on the boys side was a monster 57-2 heave by Samuel Dirkes to win the shot put. To put that throw into perspective, it would have been been the top throw in the state in last year's outdoor season. Someone might have designs on the 4A shot put title already...

Probably the next most impressive event was the 4:38 and 4:38 turned in by Yonatan Kefle and Yasin Sado in the mile. Kefle made a big move on the last lap, then hung on to nip Sado at the wire.

Jeordon Holmes wasn't close to PR territory, but his 21-foot mark was plenty enough to win the long jump. The triple jump title went, appropriately, to a guy using all three of his names: Fischer James Argosino. And, Mr. FJA went 44-5 for that win.

Hitch Young, probably the last entry in the entire meet, went 12-11.5 to win the pole vault. And he was kind of excited about that, too.

Will Murphy and Teag Parker both went 6-0 in the high jump, but Murphy got the win on misses.

Tyrese VanHorne had the fastest time in 60 prelims but didn't show up for finals, opening the door for Sterling Brassfield to take the win. Those who thought VanHorne's day was done, however, were sadly mistaken. VanHorne was back for the 200 and took the win there with a 23.34.

Emrik Wells won the 400 at 53.20. Josh Dean was a big winner at 600 meters with a 1:27. Benjamin Bi took the 1000 in 2:44.

Zaire Jackson dominated the 60 hurdle prelims but also did the disappearing act for finals. In his absence, Dane Palazzo was pleased to take the win.

William Ledden was William Leadin' most of the 3000 before Colin Szuch took over and took the win. 9:33 isn't a bad time this early and at 6200 feet.

And that, folks, wraps things up from the UCCS indoor track and field facility. If you missed this one, you'll get another chance on February 1.
