A Stellar Night At Steinhauer Field House

There was no catching Zion "Flash" Gordon Thursday night.

If track and field really wanted to go big, they'd have walk-up songs as athletes got set in their blocks. And for Zion Gordon, the song has to be Queen's "Flash."

Zion "Flash" Gordon tallied yet another flawless night inside Steinhauer Field House. The Regis Jesuit senior was runaway victor in the 60, where he took down a stellar field that included Cameron HarrisThal Woods, and Elijah Williams

"Flash a-ah!"

Flash Gordon dominated the field with the lone sub-7 clocking, running 6.97. Harris, Woods, and Williams followed, running 7.02, 7.07, and 7.08.

He duplicated the feat nearly an hour later, winning the 60 hurdles in the lone sub-8 clocking, running 7.96 for the No. 5  time in the US, and No. 1 time in Colorado Behind him Williams took second in 8.08, while Joel Nyatusah was third in 8.17.

"Flash a-ah!"

(Hopefully you'll have that song in your head all day now...)

While Flash Gordon dominated the sprints, the 400 was a hotly contested race that went to the line. Dillon Andrews took Emrick Wells, and Daniel Ford under 54 seconds, as all three ran within a tenth of a second of each other. Andrews took the victory in 53.54, just ahead of Wells, who finished in 53.55, and Ford, who finished in 53.59.

The 800 saw the winner come out of the second heat, as Yonas Mogos took a patient approach to the distance-sprint. Yonas used a late kick to run away for a dominating 2:03 victory, which is the No. 2 time in Colorado. While Yonas took the win out of the second heat, it was Braden Bartlett who dominated the first heat, running 2:07 for the second fastest time of the day.

On the other side of the spectrum, the mile came down to the final laps with Simon Kelati claiming a slim victory over Colin Szuch and Bryce Reeburgh. Kelati ran 4:45 for the win, just ahead of Szuch and Reeburgh, who ran 4:48, and 4:49.

Winston Hicks dominated all-comers to claim the high jump in 5-8, likewise, Rayan Elahi took the pole vault with a mark of 11-0.

Three went over 20 feet in the long jump, lead by Teagan Mayes, who went 20-10.20 for the win.

Meanwhile, Samuel Dirkes continued his rampage of the 2019 indoor season. The Silver Creek senior dominated the shot put field with a toss of 56-7.
