Broomfield Shootout Lives Up To The Hype!

In the springs Sydney Holiday hit the track for the first time in Broomfield blue. The junior transfer from Wyoming put together an impressive indoor season, and quickly made a name for herself Saturday.

Holiday downed a stellar field in the 100 that included Teagan Zwaanstra, and Mia Manson. The Broomfield junior ran away with a 12.21 victory. Zwaanstra was second in 12.66, just ahead of Manson's 12.69.

Holiday also won the 100 hurdles in similar fashion, running 15.71 to Kara Lucyk's 15.80.

Taylor James capped her big week with two giant performances Saturday. James won the 200 and 400 in state-leading marks. Her 25.03 in the 200 was a clear second ahead of the field, while her 400 was a jaw-dropping performance. The Niwot sophomore ran a US No. 6 of 54.72 in the event, which was a clear six seconds ahead of the field.

The distance events saw some pretty epic battles between the Blair sisters and Anna Shults

In the 800 Eagle Valley freshmen Samantha Blair took down Shults with both going 2:17. Blair had the edge with a 2:17.50 to Shult's 2:17.65.

A few hours earlier Shults battled the elder Blair sister, Joslin Blair, in the 1,600. The pace was hot from the start, as Blair, Shults, and Lanie Szuch cruised through the opening lap just over 72 seconds. Blair was able to run away from the field in the final lap to cross in 5:09. Shults was two seconds back in 5:11, just ahead of Szuch's 5:12.

The 3,200 was another stacked event as the top 10 ran under 11:20.

4A state cross country champ Layla Roebke returned to form with a big 11:03 victory - that's the No. 1 time in the state. Hot on her heels was Szuch, who ran 11:05 for second.

The 300 hurdles was a battle between Kelia Portis and Tara Hitchcock. Both cracked 47 seconds, with Portis taking the win in 46.69 to Hitchcock's 46.81.

In the high jump Olivia Rankin and Taylor James went 5-4, while the top five went five-feet over higher.

In the horizontal jumps Manson took down a stellar field in the long jump. The Monarch junior went 18-6.5 to beat Zwaanstra, Hitchcock, and Anna HartZwaanstra was second in 17-11, Hart third in 17-10.2, just ahead of Hitchchock, who was fourth in 17-10.0.

Hart did get her victory, however, in the triple jump. The ThunderRidge senior won the event in 37-3. Lily Margolis was second in 35-8.75.

Manson found her stride in the pole vault Saturday, winning the event in 12-0. The top four went over 10 feet.

In the throws Logan DeRock was the name. The Roosevelt senior dominate the competition, winning the discus in 134-01, and the shot in 41-10 - both state-leading marks.
