The fifth edition of the Stutler Twilight Invitational is set to take off Friday night, and it's already shaping up to be one of the best editions yet!
A Brief History
It was originally started by former Cherry Creek HS Head Girls Track and Field Coach Sally Moos. Along with current Grandview Head Boys and Girls Track and Field Coach John Reyes.
Although Moos no longer coaches track and field she still serves as the Clerk of the Course for the meet. She is regarded by many as one of the best Track and Field Coaches ever from the State of Colorado.
In 2013 Coach Moos lead her team to the Colorado Class 5A State Title. Coach Moos is currently the head volleyball coach and a PE teacher at Cherry Creek High School, while Coach Reyes teaches Mathematics, and is the head boys and girls track and field coach at Grandview High School. Reyes also continues to serve as the meet director of the Stutler Twilight Invitational.
The concept of the meet is that great teams in one place will produce great results. Unlike many Invites late in the season, this meet does not rely on a large amount of schools to provide great competition. Instead; it has less schools than most meets, but the schools involved are steeped in track and field tradition. All of these schools are highly competitive every year, producing some of the most well rounded and deepest teams in the state every year.
Over the last four years this meet has seen some of the greatest high school marks ever produced on Colorado Soil.
The Highlights Include:
Jordyn Colter (2015) Cherry Creek HS Girls 800 2:05.48 (All-Classification Record at the time, she would later break her own record at the State meet)
Paul Roberts (2015) Lyons HS Boys 3200 9:13.55 (Class 2A Classification Record)
David Thornton (2016) Cherokee Trail Boys High Jump 7-0 (A Top 10 All-Time mark by a Colorado High School athlete, Tied for 9th)
Brie Oakley (2017) Grandview HS Girls 3200 10:27.97 (Class 5A Classification Record at the time, she would later break the All-Classification the State meet)
Sydnee Larkin (2018) Cherokee Trail HS Girls Triple Jump 40-10 (All-Classification Record)
For a meet this small that has only run four times the records here are very impressive. Looking at this year's edition it appears that many more meet records are in jeopardy this Friday.
