Battles Wage At Liberty Bell: Division Recaps

As with previous years the Sweepstakes "JV" race had some serious competition. Varsity-caliber transfers have taken this race, as they can't compete in "varsity" competition until after the season.

Naturally, this means that it was a high quality affair.

Niwot's Lucca Fulkerson claimed the girl's race in 18:36 - a time that would've placed her 22nd in the Sweepstakes A race, and it would've drastically changed Niwot's team score in that race.

Likewise, Valor Christian's Lanie Szuch and Isabella Prosceno also dipped under 19 minutes, finishing in 18:52 and 18:59 to finish second and third.

Cherry Creek's JV blitzed the competition in this race, showing that they've got some incredible depth - they tallied just 44 points FTW.

On the boy's side of the race Carlos Kipkorir Cheruiyot made it a Niwot sweep of the Sweepstakes JV race. The Niwot freshman dipped under 17 minutes, running 16:56. Fellow freshmen Jake Bach was a close second in 17:06, which was just ahead of Justin Banta's 17:07.

Chaparral took the team title by just under twenty points, tallying 46 to Niwot's 64.

In the Division 3 girl's race Cassidy Hickey led Hana Husmann under 20 minutes. Hickey took the title with a 19:45 clocking, while Husmann was the runner-up in 19:50. Buena Vista's Mallory Salazar finished third in 20:37.

Moffat County took the team title with an impressive 70 points, while Berthoud finished second with 114. Lutheran and St. Mary's both tallied 146 points, though the nod for third went to Lutheran.

In the boy's Division 3 race Wyatt Mortenson reigned supreme. The Moffat County junior ran clear of the field, winning the race in 16:18 - a 45 second victory.

Saratoga freshman Grant Bartlett finished second just over that coveted 17 minute barrier, running 17:03, while Walt Jones was one second back in 17:04 for third. Grant's freshman brother, Grady Bartlett, was also in the mix just one second back in fifth.

Colorado Academy took the team title with 95 points, while Berthoud finished second with 108. Moffat County finished third, just ahead of Peyton.
