Niwot looks to be in prime position to keep the streak alive heading into 2021. The three-time defending state champions return the top squad heading into next year.
Freshman Mia Prok was the state runner-up this year, and has run 16:58. Prok is flanked by Madison Shults, who made a big leap after the regular season - Shults ran 17:16 at the RunningLane National Championships. Cayden Justice, Lex Bullen, and Stella Vieth give Niwot five returners who have broken 19 minutes already.
After scanning the list of returners, the 4A landscape looks eerily similar to the past three years.
Battle Mountain is the No. 2 returning squad. Milaina Almonte is their lone sub-19 returner - she's run 18:39, though Lindsey Kiehl is knocking on that sub-19 door - she's run 19:01. Adding to their solid 1-2 punch is Lindsey Whitton, Presley Smith, and Lily Whelan, who have all dipped under 20 minutes.
Based on times, Durango looks quite similar to Battle Mountain, just a stride back.
