Soaring High At The Lafayette Season Opener

On the boy's side of the competition most of Niwot's distance stars raced (way) down in distance.

4A state cross country champion Zane Bergen proved that he's got speed. The Niwot junior won the 400 in 51.08, which was just ahead of his teammate, Benjamin Classen, who was second by one-hundredth of a second, in 51.09.

While Niwot went 1-2 in the 400, Centaurus took the first five spots of the 800.

Centaurus freshman Jacoby Ennis kicked late for the win, running 2:00.13, which was just ahead of James Overberg's 2:00.18, and Kyle Berg's 2:00.34.

As close as the 800 was, the 1,600 was a solo-run for James Thomas. The Broomfield senior was off and away within the first lap. He won the event in 4:31 - a 15-second victory.

In the long jump Jackson Stone went the distance.

The Broomfield senior went 20-1 to claim the event. Stone also won the 100.

The team competition was much closer than the girls - Niwot claimed the title with 250 points, while Broomfield was second with 239. Centaurus took third with 98.
