Soaring High At The Lafayette Season Opener

In the girl's sprints Niwot dominated the competition.

Margaret Gillett and Taylor James went 1-2 in the 100, with Gillett taking the victory in 12.71, which was just ahead of James' 12.77.

That would be the only time James didn't cross the finish line first.

The Niwot senior went on to win the 200 in 25.39, while teammate Kimora Northrup was a stride back in 25.90.

The duo of James and Northrup went 1-2 again - this time in the 400. James won the event in 57.13, while Northrup took second in 57.69. Niwot teammate Madison Shults also dipped under 58-seconds, running 57.92 to finish third.

Northrup was the runaway winner in the 100 Hurdles, running 15.01 - nearly a two-second victory.

Another bright spot of the meet came from Kathryn Carroll, who dominated the long jump with a big PR. The Niwot junior won the event with an 18-3 leap - that's CO No. 2.

In the 3,200 Allison Beasley took the W, running 11:25 - a Colorado PR for the event.

Meanwhile Niwot dominated the team competition -  they tallied 312 points. Broomfield was second with 181.5, and Centaurus was third with 50.50.
