Blazing At The Pomona Invitational

While Schurr and Brassfield highlighted in the shorter sprints, Langston Williams ran into a league of his own in the 400. The Eaglecrest senior won the event just off his personal best, running 48.82 - nearly a full-second victory.

Camden Law and Luke Ming also dipped under 50 seconds, with Law finishing second in 49.79, and Ming third in 49.80.

As definitive as Williams' victory was in the 400, the 800 came down to two-hundredths of a second.

After an evenly-paced opening quarter, the field turned on the engines in the final lap. Drew Costelow and Timothy Thompson went stride-for-stride over the final 100, with Costelow claiming the victory over Thompson - 1:55.94 to 1:55.96.

In the 1,600 Caden Smith set a hot early pace, but Lukas Haug paced this one to perfection. The Boulder senior used the final 600 to telescope away for the W, running 4:19. 39.

Meanwhile, the fast-section of the 3,200 was run Friday night. James Overberg took down a solid field, running 9:20.99 to claim the event. Simon Saia was second in 9:24.97.

Among the many spotlights of the meet were the hurdles.

Gregory Anderson sprinted - and hurdled - into a race of his own in the 110 hurdles. The Far Northeast senior ran a state-leading 14.38 to claim the event.

Cooper Needham took second with a 15.05 clocking.

Likewise, the 300H was a runaway event.

Dominic Gallelli blitzed the field, the meet record, and set a new state-leading mark, running 37.93 to win the 300H. Needham once again took the runner-up spot here, running 38.83.

On the topic of state-leading marks, the Niwot 4x800 squad took down the two year-old 4A state record, running 7:47.57. Their winning time also ranks No. 11 nationally

Meanwhile Michael Hemingway won the high jump with a clearance of 6-2, while Fairview went 1-2 in the pole vault, with Will Chiang and Leo Sundstrom both clearing 13-6.

Nate Gaye swept the long jump and the triple jump, with leaps of 22-2.5, and 44-5.75. Likewise, Braiden Dishman swept the throws, winning the shot put with a toss of 50-8, and the discus in 163-3.

In the team competition Rocky Mountain prevailed, tallying 74 points to claim victory. The race for second was very, very tight, however. Valor Christian took second with 58 points, while Cherokee Trail was third with 56. Fossil Ridge was fourth with 55.5, and Fort Collins with fifth with 50.
