The second week of the 2021 Colorado cross country season saw some legit performances. 

Course records were falling like flies. And personal bests were run, just two short weeks into the season. 

Let's get into it. Here are the highlights of the highlights...

We'll start with the cherry on top - at the Cherry Creek Steve Lohman Invitational, where the first sub-18 clocking was run. 

Emily Lamontagne came out swinging - the Arapahoe junior ran 17:50 for the victory, a Colorado No. 1, and the No. 6 time ever on the course. Mia Mraz was a solid runner-up with an 18:15 personal best, and a CO No. 2. 

On the boy's side of the competition Evan Kraus started a streak - the Erie junior picked up win No. 2 of the season with a 15:41 clocking.

Keeping with the theme of people running fast, the D'Evelyn Dash played host to the top-two times in the boy's all-classification rankings. 

Connor McCormick torched the previous meet record by over half-a-minute, running a CO No. 1 of 15:13 for the victory. Add that it was a massive PR for the Longmont senior. And he wasn't the only one with a big day - The Classical Academy's Matthew Edwards looks to be a legit threat in 3A - he also dipped under the previous course record, running 15:21 for the runner-up spot. 

On the girl's side of the competition Nadhia Campos came out swinging on her high school career. The Vanguard School freshman dropped the fastest time of the day in the D2 race, and the lone sub-19 clocking, running 18:57 - that's currently the No. 1 time in 3A. Reese Tucker nearly cracked 19 - running 19:00.0 in the D1 race.

A day earlier and a mile less, the Vista Nation XC 2-Mile Invitational was another hot race, per the usual. Brooke Wilson ran 11:28 to win the race just one-second off Taylor Whitfield's 11:27 course record. Emma Stutzman took second in 11:40, while Valor Christian freshman Keeghan Edwards finished third in 11:46.

On the boy's side of the competition Ty Garrett and Carlos Kipkorir Cheruiyot engaged in an all-out kicker's affair over the final half-mile. Despite near-disaster for Garrett (a slip on the final turn) the Valor junior won the race in 10:08 to Cheruiyot's 10:09.

A day later and a few thousand feet up in elevation, Battle Mountain Husky Invitational saw two big performances. Durango's Land Lambert took down Harrison Witt's 16:51 course record, running 16:47 for the win, while Summit freshman Ella Hagen became the fourth to break 20 minutes on this grueling course, running 19:55 to claim the girl's race.

Back on the front range there were plenty of movers and shakers in 3A.

Logan Gullett raced on uncontested at the Horizon Invitational, running 16:29 for the win, while Caden Schweer ran 16:24 at the Andy Myers Invitational, and Branden Davis nearly cracked 16, running 16:00 at the 48th Annual Rocky Ford Invitational

On the western slope 3A state champ Katelyn Maley opened up her season, soloing a 19:10 at the Basalt Longhorn Cross Country Invitational

 On the topic of opening a season, Jackson Shorten toed the line for the first time this fall at the Randall Hess XC Invitational. The Mountain View cruised to a 15:45 victory.
