Boys 100

Grandview is bringing the heat!

David Maldonado and Luke Trinrud are the top-seeds in the 100.

Maldonado is coming off a 10.91 from last week's The California Relays. A year ago he torched a wind-aided 10.56 at the Dakota Ridge Invitational, and finished second at the 5A Colorado State Track and Field Championships.

Trinrud is coming off an 11.01 clocking from the California Relays. A year ago he ran a 10.74 personal best in the event, and finished sixth at the 5A Colorado State Track and Field Championships

The Grandview duo will have a challenger in Air Academy's Simeon Whitaker, who is coming off a 11.20 victory at the windy Harrison Panther Invite. A year ago he ran 10.82, and finished third in the 4A Colorado State Track and Field Championships

Girls 200

We haven't seen a sub-25 clocking in Colorado yet this season, but that could change Saturday.

Symone Adams hasn't run the event outdoors yet, but several months ago she did torch a 24.78 indoors at the Carl Lewis Invitational. She heads to Broomfield coming off a 12.12 clocking in the 100. A year ago she ran 24.32 in the 200 outdoors, and finished third in the 5A Colorado State Track and Field Championships

Coming down from out-of-state is Wyoming star Addie Pendergast

She was undefeated in this event in Wyoming last year (as well as the 400.) Pendergast hasn't raced outdoors yet. She's coming off a 25.62 runner-up finish at the Wyoming Indoor State Track & Field Championships several weeks ago. Last year she ran a PR of 24.37 outdoors.

Adams and Pendergast raced in the 200 at the 2021 Broomfield Shootout with Adams finishing two places in front.

Rachel Bair will head to Broomfield as a bit of a dark horse. The multi-event talent has been busy this indoor season. She's toed the starting line just once this outdoor season - in the 100 Hurdles, and mostly competed in field events. Though several months ago she did run 25.85 in the 200 indoors at the Air Force High School Indoor Open. A year ago she ran 24.89 outdoors, and finished fifth at the 5A Colorado State Track and Field Championships

Boys 1,600

The distance events are loaded.

While Grandview is bringing heat to the boys 100, Mountain Vista is in the 1,600.

Tyler Downs and Benjamin Anderson are the top-two seeds here.

Downs is coming off a 4:14 clocking from the Texas Distance Festival at lower elevation, though he did pop a 4:14.92 here in Colorado at the PEAK Pre-Season #2 last month. A year ago he ran 4:15 in Colorado, and finished third at the 5A Colorado State Track and Field Championships

Likewise, Anderson is coming off a 4:16 from the Texas Distance Festival - and like Downs, he ran nearly the same time here in Colorado at last month's PEAK Pre-Season #2, where he ran 4:16.16. A year ago he ran 4:20, and finished 11th at the 5A Colorado State Track and Field Championships

Girls 1,600

Bethany Michalak highlights the girl's field.

She's coming in hot off a 10:24 2-mile from New Balance Nationals Indoor, where she finished 16th. She hasn't raced outdoors yet, though a year ago she ran 4:52 (in Colorado), and was the 4A state runner-up in the event. In June she went on to win the 1,600 at the RunningLane Track Championships in 4:42. And just this past December she finished third at the Nike Cross Nationals.

While Michalak stands out as a favorite, we could see quite a few challenge for the next few spots.

There's Mountain Vista's Peyton Adams, Palmer's Adele Havlick, Air Academy's Tessa Walter, and Cherokee Trail's Mckenna Mazeski.

Adams is coming off a 4:52.27 PR from the Texas Distance Festival, while Havlick heads to Broomfield with a 5:24 victory at the Palmer Terror Invitational. A year ago she ran 4:57 at RunningLane Track Championships

Walter hasn't raced outdoors yet, though she did run 5:00 at the 2023 UW High School Invite indoors. A year ago she ran 4:57 at the RunningLane Track Championships, though she's made quite a leap since then.

Mazeski has raced the spectrum of distance events over the first two weeks, including a 5:25 at the Centennial League Varsity Opener. A year ago she ran 5:01 at RunningLane.

Boys 3,200

Battle Mountain's junior-duo of Will Brunner and Porter Middaugh doubled-teamed plenty of fields during the cross county season, and now they're headed to the track. They're the top-two seeds in the boy's 3,200.

Last fall Brunner and Middaugh torched a 14:56 clocking at the Warrior Lincoln Park Classic (SWL Championships)

Brunner hasn't raced outdoors yet, and he raced sparingly over the indoor season. A highlight has to be a 8:35 3,000 from the Boston University Scarlet and White Invite at lower elevations. A year ago he ran 9:37 in Colorado (and 9:13 down low.)

Middaugh has raced once this outdoor season - a 4:32 1,600 victory at the Rifle High School Invitational. A year ago he ran 9:36 in Colorado, and finished 14th at the 4A Colorado State Track and Field Championships. Additionally he ran 9:14 down low.

If there's anyone who can challenge the Battle Mountain duo, it looks like Niwot's Stefan Haug

Haug hasn't raced outdoors yet, though he's is coming off a 9:14 2-mile from the Nike Indoor Nationals (he passed the 3,000 in 8:38.) A year ago he ran 9:56 in Colorado, and 9:18 down low.

What's additionally exciting about this event, is how much Brunner, Middaugh, and Haug have improved since the 2022 season.

Girls 3,200

On the topic of duos - which seems to be somewhat of a theme here - Niwot's Mia Prok and Olivia Alessandrini are the top-two seeds in the girl's 3,200.

Prok is coming in off a 4:53 mile clocking at the Nike Indoor Nationals two weeks ago (and she's run 4:58 outdoors last month at the PEAK Pre-Season #2.) She hasn't raced the 3,200 outdoors yet, though last year she ran 10:16 down low at the RunningLane Track Championships, where she finished third.

Likewise, Olivia Alessandrini hasn't raced the event outdoors yet, but she heads to Broomfield with a 10:33 2-mile at the Nike Indoor Nationals added to her resume. A year ago she ran 11:05 in Colorado, and finished sixth at the 4A Colorado State Track and Field Championships in the event.

BONUS: Girls 100 Hurdles/300 Hurdles

Gabriella Cunningham is the big favorite in both events. She's coming in hot off two US-Top-Six marks - she ran 13.98 in the 100H at the California Relays - that's a US No. 6, and 42.70 in the 300H -- that's a US No. 5

BONUS: Girls Pole Vault

Three pole vaulters who have cleared 13-feet at some point over the past year headline. It's a competition we've seen quite a few times (and will likely see more of in the future!)

Anna Willis currently leads the state with a 13-0 from the The Banana Belt ClassicMegan Kelleghan hasn't competed outdoors yet, though she cleared 12-5.5 several weeks ago at New Balance Nationals Indoor

Likewise, Lilly Nichols has't competed outdoors yet, though she's cleared 12-6 at the Great Southwest Indoor Classic, which she won.
