Cole Sprout is Colorado's fastest runner over the past decade (and ever).
The past decade has seen some incredible performances, but what's even more exciting is looking at the past two years...
With one decade coming to a close, and new one beginning, we've got the Top 1,000 times run over the past 10 years.
Seven of the top 10 boy's times were run over the past two years.
Five of the top 10 girl's times were run over the past two years. (And six of the top 11).
By The Numbers (over the past decade)
17 boys have broken 15 minutes
349 boys have broken 16 minutes
Four girls have broken 17 minutes
84 girls have broken 18 minutes
There's no real surprise about who sits on top of the boy's list, because anyone who's been paying attention the past few years knows that every time Cole Sprout steps on the course we're seeing something special.
His 14:16.01 is not only the fastest time ever run by a Colorado high school runner, but it's the third fastest time ever run by a high schooler across the country.
Sprout's rise has clearly paved a highway, because Easton Allred (when he ran for Mountain Vista last year), Cruz Culpepper, Parker Wolfe, Austin Vancil, Connor Ohlson, and Ares Reading join Sprout as runners who stormed into Top-10 times run over the past decade - in the past two years.
Clearly, everyone is only getting faster.
Likewise, the girl's side of the this list has seen some incredible performances over the past decade, and has been shuffled a lot in the past two years.
Katie Rainsberger's 16:23 from 2015 remains The Time To Beat, as it's currently 21-seconds in front of everyone.
Brie Oakley, Elise Cranny, and Lauren Gregory join Rainsberger under 17 minutes.
While Rainsberger's time appears untouchable, if we look at the past two years there's evidence that the girl's field is inching its way closer...
It takes a Sub-17 clocking to crack the top-five of this list, and Quinn McConnell nearly did it a year ago with her 17:00. She comes in No. 6 on this list. Riley Stewart, Samrawit Dishon, Samantha Blair, and Cameron McConnell take up the No. 7 - No. 10 spots - and Joslin Blair sits No. 11.
The evidence of Colorado girls getting faster is right there - Stewart, Samantha Blair, and McConnell are sophomores, and have two years to return to the course and climb their way upwards on the list.
What did it take to make this list?
16:36.90 on the boy's side
19:44.60 on the girl's side.
