In case you missed it, Danny Carney won the league title by 45 seconds in 15:35. At that pace, 45 seconds translates to a little more than 200 meters. With Dakota Ridge running a somewhat depleted lineup, however, they weren't in a good position to give Pomona a run for their money for the team title.
Nicole Hahn ran a very nice 18:27 to win the 5A girls title and also to lead her Ralston Valley Mustangs to the team title. Stiffer challenges lay ahead for Ralston Valley.
The more interesting battles, however, were waged in the 4A races. Evergreen was well out in front of the 4A girls race, but the battle for second got very close between Golden, D'Evelyn, and Green Mountain. And these schools get to repeat that little contest this week in the regional meet. Golden came out top among the three schools at the league meet, but maybe that just motivates D'Evelyn and Green Mountain for this week.
In the 4A boys race, D'Evelyn took it to the field. Though lacking any big names like John McGuire or Kevin Williams, this may be the best D'Evelyn team in many years. Better yet, they seem to be peaking at just the right time.
