It's probably a safe inference that this is a pretty tough region given that the top two 4A boys teams in 2012 both came out of this region. It's also a solid girls region, but recent history does tend to favor the boys.

1. Coronado - Last year's state and regional champions get the nod as this year's regional favorites. Bailey Roth, the second fastest high school age 2000 steepler in this nation's history, occupies the role of front runner. Nobody in 4A needs an introduction to Bailey Roth. Last year's cross country results say that the top five this year fills out as Jesse Brinkman, Danny Mathews, Stefan Rodriguez, and Adam Egger. All ran track in the spring, but they went their different ways event-wise. Until demonstrated otherwise, I'm inclined to think Adam Egger runs second for the Cougars and the rest battle it out ...
