Like 2A Region 3, this one also convenes at Pueblo's Elmwood Short Nine Golf Course. It's a great place to run. And, a great place to watch a meet.
It's difficult to ignore this region, in large part because the 3A #1 ranked boys team and the 3A #1 ranked girls team both take up residence in the region. So, not surprisingly, there's a pretty clear regional favorite on both the boys and girls side. Those favorites would be Lamar and Salida.
But, the rest of the region takes care of business nicely as well. The regional cut comes at five teams advancing to state and there could easily be a team or two staying home from state that is currently planning on the weekend off.
As far as individual favorites go, Josh Davis and Elena Slavoski probably make the most compelling claims for that status, but neither comes close to being a sure thing. Dominic Carrese, Taylor Stack, Isaiah De La Cerda, Phoebe Powell, Sydney Fesenmeyer, Hannah Struttman, and perhaps a few more will be taking their own shots at the regional title. Both races should be very interesting.
