Before starting, let's be clear about one thing. Many schools, and perhaps especially many large schools, took this past weekend as an opportunity to lay off on their regular varsity runners. We saw a bunch of schools running second varsities at the meets of the week gone by. We also saw times this week that were considerably slower than many of the times from preceding weeks. Heat and low oxygen density have something to do with that, but perhaps fatigue and diminised levels of effort have something to do with it as well. In any case, the results still tell a story, but sometimes you have to dig a little deeped to read that story that's being told.
