Summary Notes: Fort Collins TC Invitational

Austin Campbell's high jumps are getting some attention around the state early in the indoor season. Colorado Track XC file photo by Alan Versaw.

If you came to Boulder hoping for big things, they didn't make you wait for long.

The 60 meter dash results may have been a bit anticlimactic without finals, but little else disappointed.

Aaron Ragin found his way around three tight turns to win the 300 in 35.75. But, we also want to keep an eye on Honore Ware. This is the second meet this winter in which Ware has turned up big results. I don't have him pinned down to a high school yet, but he would appear to be a nice addition for some team.

Brock Miller took a nice 400 from Friday night an extended it to a 600-meter win on Saturday. Noah Riley dropped everyone in the 1500, signaling his readiness for challenges down the road.

Ryan Younggreen ran 39" hurdles for the first time this winter and left no doubt at 8.24. It's not that Alex Miller and Trenton Stringari ran poorly, it's simply that Younggreen stole the show.

Austin Campbell held a jumping clinic, winning both the long and high jump. His 6-9 in the high jump has him nicely positioned in the national rankings (more on that later this week).

For the girls, Ally Watt roared to the best 60 meter time in the state this winter in prelims. Later, she would edge Carly Lester in the 300 at 40-point. Lester, however, didn't go home empty-handed. You might already have guessed that she won the 60 meter hurdles, and you'd be right. The time was 8.74.

The familiar names of Heide Baron and Lily Tomasula-Martin handled the middle distance competition with relative ease.

Ashlyn Hare went 5-7 to set a new winter standard in the high jump. Not far back of that, however, was Mackenzie Pettit. Both Maya Evans and Audra Koopman flirted with 18 feet in the long jump, though both came up a hair short.

There were also a couple of stand-up-and-take-notice performances from the middle school set. Specifically, Arria Minor uncorked a 7.89 60 meter dash (and backed it up with a 43-flat 300), Anna Hall unleashed a 1:47.52 600, and Chantae Steele a 5:09.87 1500.

It will be a while before things are uninteresting in Colorado high school track and field.
