Colorado Track XC Male Track & Field Athlete of the Year

Mason Finley stood alone atop the world of high school track and field in Colorado this spring. There were athletes who scored more points than Finley, but none who dominated their disciplines as Finley did.

The highlights of Finley's season are too numerous to mention, but a list of the most significant efforts follows:

set the Colorado all-classification record for the shot put at 71-3.25.

set the all-time national high school discus record with a throw of 236-6.

set new state meet records in winning the 3A shot put and discus for the third consecutive year.

swept the shot put and discus events at Nike Outdoor Nationals. He threw 71-8.75 in the shot put to improve his PR in that event from what he threw during the CHSAA season.

won the discus and placed second in the shot put at USATF Junior Nationals using the larger international implements. It should be noted that using the larger implements alters a thrower's timing and Finley adjusted remarkably well to the change only one week after throwing with the smaller implements at NON.

You have to figure it is likely to be a long time before we see another athlete of Finley stature (both literally and figuratively) in the Colorado high school track and field ranks.
