Boys Preview
Sprints (100, 200, and 400)
In the 100 and 200 Cherokee Trail sophomore Nii Yartey leads the field with seed times of 10.86 and 22.12 respectively. In the 100 senior teammate Malik Sparrow is the second seed at 11.07.
In the 200 Cherry Creek junior Andrew Wilson-Axpe is the second seed at 22.36.
Although no one entered in the 400 has broke 50 seconds yet, the Stutler Twilight is the meet to do it. Cherokee Trail sophomore Bobby Williams is the top seed at 50.07, followed by Niwot junior Emrik Wells (50.18) and Chaparral sophomore Jace Stubbs at 50.30.
Hurdles (110H, and 300H)
Two athletes in the 110H have run under 15 seconds. Cherokee Trail senior Ian Gray (14.52) and Fort Collins senior Jake Sheesley (14.92). Cherokee Trail senior Dillon Andrews is the only entered athlete that has run under 40 seconds in the 300H (37.98) and looks to better the Twilight meet record.
Distance (800, 1600, and 3200)
Like the Girls 1600; a pair of Mountain Vista athletes lead the way in the boys 800. Junior Brody Dempsey (1:57.89) and sophomore Harrison Witt (1:58.38).
The 1600 will see Niwot junior Cruz Culpepper attempt to break the meet record. Cruz, the son of former Olympians Alan Culpepper and Shayne Willie, has a pr of 4:11.54. The second seed is Monarch junior Luke Johnson (4:20.51).
The 3200 has a whooping 10 athletes that have run under 10 minutes. Leading the way are Thompson Valley junior Dylan Schubert (9:12.16), and Niwot Senior Ares Reading (9:14.44).
Horizontal Jumps (Long Jump and Triple Jump)
Fort Collins senior Micaylon Moore looks to better his own Twilight meet record in the long jump. If he does he will most likely join the 24 foot club. His meet record is 23'10.5. Cherry Creek junior Justin Alter is the only other athlete entered over 22 feet at 22'1.25.
Moore will also compete in the Triple Jump where he is the second seed to teammate senior Allam Bushara who is looking to jump over 50 feet Friday night. Bushara has a PR of 49'9.25.
Vertical Jumps (Pole Vault and High Jump)
National indoor champion Monarch senior Max Manson may become only second Colorado high school athlete to clear 18'0 in the pole vault. Manson looks to follow in his dad's footsteps Pat as an 18 foot vaulter. Manson's PR of 17'5.5 leads not only the field but also leads the nation. Perhaps the atmosphere of the Stutler Twilight can help him clear 18 feet Friday Night.
First year track athlete from Grandview senior Darrian Leu-Pierre is the top seed in the high jump (6'4), and Fort Collins senior Allam Bushara has cleared 6'2.
Throws (Discus and Shot Put)
The Stutler Twilight Discus meet record is in serious jeopardy as six athletes have thrown over 150 feet and two of them have thrown over 160.
ThunderRidge senior Austin Holt leads the field with a PR of 164'8, followed closely by Pomona junior Adam Karas (160'9.5).
Pomona also comes into the meet with the top three entered shot putters. Senior Michael Marquez leads the field at 51'1, junior Bishop Garrett (49'7) and Junior Adam Karas (48'10).
Relays (4x100, 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800)
The relays are always the hardest to forecast, as coaches decide which relays to put their best athletes in. However, this year's Twilight will include Doherty in all of the relays.
The Spartans are running very well right now in the sprint relays, and are looking to run sub 42 and sub 1:27 in the 4x1 and 4x2 respectively, guaranteeing that the sprint relays will be fast.
The record most in jeopardy will be the 4x1. It also appears that the first sub 3:20 4x4 may occur as top seeded Fort Collins has already run 3:21.80. Niwot also has the athletes to challenge the 4x8 meet record as well.
