A Cherry On Top At Foot Locker Midwest

There was Black Friday traveling the day after Turkey eating, and then there was a muddy course at Foot Locker Midwest in Kenosha Wisconsin in the tail end of November with a trip to sunny San Diego, California for Nationals on the line. So yeah, there were plenty of obstacles to overcome, and Cherry Creek's Riley Stewart and Parker Wolfe hurdled them all.

Hopefully the hotels had washing machines, otherwise that would've made for some messy travel with all that caked on mud...

Riley Stewart has proven that she can handle four high quality races in consecutive weekends - Nike Cross Regionals, Foot Locker Midwest, Nike Cross Nationals, and Foot Locker Nationals.

She did it last year, and she's doing it again this year.

The Cherry Creek sophomore booked her ticket to San Diego for Foot Locker Nationals just one week after booking her ticket to Portland for Nike Cross Nationals.

Stewart qualified in an insanely deep field at Foot Locker Midwest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, running 18:04 to finish sixth.

And she won't be the only runner from Colorado - or even Cherry Creek - to head to San Diego.

Parker Wolfe might have just missed out of qualifying for Nike Cross Nationals last week - by about one second - but he didn't miss qualifying for Foot Locker Nationals.

The Cherry Creek junior nabbed the 10th - and final - qualifying spot to earn his first trip to a national championship event. Wolfe dipped under 16 over the muddy course, running 15:59.

With their performances Stewart and Wolfe will compete at Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego on December 14.

More Colorado Highlights

In the girl's Championship race Sierra Bower capped her incredible 2019 season with yet another honorable run. The Basalt junior was just outside a qualifying finish once again, finishing 15th in 18:37.

Meanwhile, Emma Stutzman and Maggi Congdon finished nearly in tandem, with Stutzman crossing 54th in 19:46, and Congdon in 56th in 19:47.

In the boy's Championship race Henry Murphy was within site of a national qualifier. The Fairview junior finished 15th in 16:21, while Alex Baca had a big run of his own. The Gunnison junior finished 29th in 16:32.
